RPHI 333: World Religions

A study of the major religions of the world in relation to the setting from which each emerged, and the view of life which each developed.  Particular attention is given to Hinduism, Buddhism, Taoism, Confucianism, Shintoism, Zoroastrianism, Islam, and Judaism.  Prerequisite(s): RBIB 113 and RBIB 123.  Three hours, Spring, Odd years

1.     To establish the truths that provides a Biblical, Christian Worldview.

2.     To survey and answer the modern cultural climate, philosophically and religiously.

Attendance

Each class the student can earn 3½ points for timely class participation.  When late or leaving early, she/he loses one point for each (it is the student's responsibility to inform the professor when this occurs).  If a student is absent, he receives zero points (with an acceptable excuse this can be made-up with an acceptable 350 word essay).  If the attendance grade fails to exceed sixty points, the student fails the course.  If your absence prevents you from taking a test, you may schedule a different test with me (however, you may prefer the first test).

Assignment (100 points each)

1.     Lead the class discussion on one chapter of the textbooks.

2.     PowerPoint presentation on one of the major religions apologetically.

Tests (100 points each)

1.     Christian Worldview Test.

2.     Comprehensive Final.

Grading

A=100%-94%; B=93%-84%; C=83%-71%; D=70%-61%; F=60%-00%

Late Work

Any work late shall be reduced a letter grade per week.  After the eighth week no work shall be received.
